👪 Custody Battle Resolves Months After Fatal Shooting at Summerlin Law Office

A highly contentious custody dispute that led to a fatal shooting last April has reached a resolution, concluding a tragic case that left three people dead and two families grappling with loss.

The custody battle stemmed from divorce proceedings between attorney Dylan Houston and Ashley Prince over their two young children. Tensions culminated in violence on April 8, when Joe Houston, Dylan’s father and legal representative, fatally shot Ashley Prince, her husband Dennis Prince, and then himself during a deposition at Dennis Prince’s Summerlin law office.

Resolution Reached in Custody Case

Ashley Prince’s parents, Julie and Paul Page, assumed a central role in the custody case after her death. The case was set for trial in December but was resolved before proceedings began.

During a December 30 hearing, District Judge Dawn Throne facilitated an off-the-record meeting with both sides, resulting in an agreement. According to the terms:

  • For the next year, custody of the two children will be shared between Dylan Houston and Ashley Prince’s parents.

  • Starting the following year, Paul and Julie Page will have custody every other weekend.

Judge Throne expressed gratitude for the parties’ willingness to reach a resolution, noting it was in the best interests of the children.

Background of the Case

The custody dispute between Dylan Houston and Ashley Prince had been marked by bitter accusations from both sides.

  • Allegations Against Houston: Ashley Prince’s legal team accused her ex-husband of substance abuse and threatening behavior.

  • Allegations Against Prince: Dylan Houston alleged that Ashley Prince employed vindictive tactics and was unwilling to co-parent.

These disputes extended to nearly every aspect of the custody arrangement, from child exchange logistics to attorney fees and confrontations at the children’s extracurricular activities.

After Ashley Prince’s death, her parents criticized the court system, calling the protracted legal battle a failure that ultimately contributed to her demise.

Guardianship of the Children’s Estate

Paul Page was appointed guardian of the children’s estate in September and will retain this role until a potential wrongful death lawsuit is resolved. While attorneys have discussed the possibility of filing a suit against Joe Houston’s estate, no such case has been publicly filed as of Friday.

A separate guardianship dispute involving Ashley and Dennis Prince’s youngest child was resolved in November. In that case, Dennis Prince’s parents and Ashley Prince’s parents were named co-guardians and share physical custody of the child.

What’s Next?

The custody agreement includes provisions for future adjustments if circumstances affecting the children change. The resolution brings some measure of closure to a case that has been fraught with tragedy, though legal actions related to the wrongful deaths may still arise.

Neither Dylan Houston nor Ashley Prince’s parents commented on the outcome. However, the agreement provides a pathway for the families to co-parent the children while navigating the aftermath of a devastating series of events.

🏒 Islanders Shut Out Golden Knights 4-0, Ending Vegas’ Streak

The New York Islanders delivered a strong performance against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, securing a 4-0 victory at T-Mobile Arena. Brock Nelson led the Islanders with a goal and an assist, while goaltender Ilya Sorokin recorded a 30-save shutout, his second of the season.

The loss ended the Golden Knights’ three-game winning streak and marked only the second time this season they have been shut out at home. Despite the setback, Vegas reached the halfway mark of the season with an NHL-best 59 points, the highest total at this stage in franchise history.

Game Overview

The Islanders capitalized on key turnovers and controlled the game defensively, converting their chances into goals:

  • First Period: Tomas Hertl’s power-play goal for the Knights was overturned on an offside challenge, giving the Islanders a boost. Anders Lee opened the scoring at 17:04 after a turnover in the defensive zone by Hertl.

  • Second Period: Tanner Pearson’s miscue at the offensive blue line led to Nelson doubling the Islanders’ lead. Bo Horvat added another goal five minutes later to extend the advantage to 3-0.

  • Third Period: Ryan Pulock sealed the game with an empty-net goal late in the period.

Sorokin’s Dominance

Ilya Sorokin was a key factor in the Islanders’ win, turning away all 30 shots he faced. The Islanders’ defense limited high-danger chances, keeping the Knights’ offense largely to the perimeter. Sorokin only needed to make one high-danger save at even strength, showcasing the Islanders’ disciplined play.

Key Takeaways

1. Islanders’ Defense Shines

The Islanders’ defensive structure was impenetrable, making it difficult for the Knights to create scoring opportunities. Vegas struggled to generate traffic in front of the net or capitalize on one-on-one battles, with many of their shots coming from low-danger areas.

2. Costly Turnovers

Critical mistakes by the Knights contributed directly to the Islanders’ first two goals. Hertl’s turnover in the defensive zone led to Lee’s goal, while Pearson’s error at the blue line set up Nelson’s tally. Pearson, who had been playing on the top line, was moved to the fourth line for the rest of the game.

3. Offensive Inconsistencies

The Knights’ top forwards were held in check throughout the game. Jack Eichel and Mark Stone combined for only five shots on goal, while defensemen Zach Whitecloud and Shea Theodore led the team in that category. Vegas’ inability to capitalize on its lone power play and to create second-chance opportunities added to their offensive struggles.

Season Context

Despite the loss, the Golden Knights have had a strong first half of the season. Their 59 points at the halfway mark represent a franchise best, and they have gone 17-4-1 since late November.

Injured players Ivan Barbashev and Nic Roy participated in the morning skate and could return as early as Saturday, offering a boost to the lineup as Vegas looks to bounce back against the New York Rangers.

Moving Forward

The loss serves as a reminder of the importance of execution and discipline, especially against structured opponents like the Islanders. With key players nearing a return and a strong foundation already in place, the Knights remain well-positioned to maintain their standing as one of the NHL’s top teams.

Donald Trump Sentenced in New York Hush Money Case, Faces No Punishment

President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced Friday in his New York hush money case, a historic moment as he becomes the first U.S. president to return to the White House after a criminal conviction. Despite the gravity of the charges, Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan opted not to impose any punishment, citing the unique circumstances of the case and Trump’s impending presidency.

Details of the Case

The charges stemmed from an alleged scheme to falsify business records to cover up a hush money payment made during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. The payment was intended to silence allegations of an affair, which Trump has consistently denied. Prosecutors argued that Trump’s actions violated New York state law by improperly documenting reimbursements to his former attorney, Michael Cohen, who made the payment.

Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, charges that carried potential penalties ranging from fines to prison time.

Judge’s Decision

Judge Merchan’s decision to forgo any punishment reflected what legal analysts described as a rare and highly consequential judgment. Merchan acknowledged the severity of the conviction but stated that imposing a penalty could hinder Trump’s ability to govern effectively when he assumes office on January 20.

The judge’s ruling effectively closes the case while allowing Trump to return to the White House unimpeded. In his decision, Merchan emphasized the broader public interest, stating that the judgment sought to balance accountability with the practical realities of Trump’s presidency.

Reactions to the Sentencing

The decision has drawn mixed reactions from legal experts, politicians, and the public:

  • Supporters: Trump’s legal team celebrated the ruling as a vindication, arguing that the case was politically motivated and should not interfere with the democratic process.

  • Critics: Opponents viewed the lack of punishment as a failure to uphold the principle of equal justice under the law, contending that no individual, including a president, should be above accountability.

Civil rights and legal advocacy groups expressed concerns that the ruling might set a dangerous precedent, signaling leniency for powerful figures in criminal cases.

Broader Implications

Trump’s sentencing raises questions about the intersection of politics and the justice system. As he prepares to take office, his conviction will likely remain a focal point of political and public discourse.

  • Legal and Political Precedent: The case underscores the challenges of prosecuting sitting and former presidents, especially as Trump faces other legal battles, including federal investigations related to election interference and classified documents.

  • Impact on Governance: Analysts suggest that while the lack of punishment allows Trump to govern without immediate legal constraints, the conviction itself could complicate his presidency, fueling criticism and opposition efforts.

Trump’s Response

Trump, who participated in the sentencing via video rather than in person, maintained his innocence throughout the case. In a statement following the ruling, he described the trial as a "witch hunt" and vowed to focus on delivering results for the American people in his second term.

Looking Ahead

As Trump prepares for his inauguration, the legal and political ramifications of his conviction will likely remain under scrutiny. The case highlights ongoing debates about presidential immunity, the role of the judiciary in political cases, and the broader implications for democracy and accountability.

🎰 Wynn Resorts Expands Global Footprint with Crown London Acquisition

Las Vegas-based Wynn Resorts Ltd. has announced plans to acquire Crown London, a prestigious members-only casino in London’s exclusive Mayfair district. The acquisition aligns with Wynn’s strategy to attract wealthy British and international gamblers to its highly anticipated Wynn Al Marjan Island, a $5.1 billion luxury resort set to open in the United Arab Emirates in 2027.

Strategic Investment, Not European Expansion

Wynn Resorts did not disclose the purchase price for Crown London but emphasized that the acquisition is not a foray into the broader European market. Instead, the company aims to leverage the London property as a gateway for high-net-worth clients to its upcoming UAE destination.

Wynn Al Marjan Island is under construction on a 115-acre site in Ras Al Khaimah and will feature:

  • A 225,000-square-foot gaming area.

  • 130,000 square feet of luxury retail.

  • 145,000 square feet of convention and meeting space.

  • 297 suites, 22 villas, and six townhouses.

  • 16 restaurants and six bars and lounges.

The development marks Wynn’s first beachfront property and the UAE’s first resort with legalized gaming.

Connecting Global Wealth

The acquisition of Crown London positions Wynn within a four-hour flight of approximately 30% of the world’s high-net-worth individuals. Wynn CEO Craig Billings noted that the property will serve as a conduit for guests to experience the company’s resorts, particularly the forthcoming Al Marjan Island project.

Crown London, located at 27-28 Curzon Street, occupies two historic townhouses and offers:

  • 20 gaming tables in upscale salons.

  • An intimate restaurant and lounge for high-end entertainment.

Wynn’s Global Presence and Future Growth

The London acquisition expands Wynn’s footprint into Europe, complementing its existing properties in the United States (Wynn and Encore Las Vegas, Encore Boston Harbor) and Asia (three properties in Macao).

  • Wynn Al Marjan Island: Wynn will hold a 40% stake in the UAE project, which is set to open in early 2027. The resort represents a significant architectural departure from Wynn’s signature bronze-colored designs seen in Las Vegas and Macao, featuring a modern 1,000-foot tower.

Synergy Between Properties

The Crown London acquisition is expected to create significant synergy with the Al Marjan Island resort. The Mayfair property will operate under the Crown London name until the transaction closes, pending regulatory approvals anticipated in late 2025.

This strategic move gives Wynn two years to market its luxury UAE development to Crown London’s clientele, aligning with Wynn’s reputation for catering to an elite, international audience.

A Growing Global Footprint

Wynn Resorts’ acquisition of Crown London underscores the company’s commitment to targeting affluent travelers and establishing itself in key global markets. With its new presence in Europe, Wynn aims to connect its offerings in the U.S., Asia, and the Middle East, solidifying its position as a leader in high-end hospitality and gaming.
