⛽ Las Vegas Gas Prices

⛽ Las Vegas Gas Prices Set to Surge Due to Refinery Issues and Seasonal Fuel Transition

Gasoline prices in Southern Nevada are expected to rise sharply in the coming weeks, potentially increasing by as much as 40 cents per gallon due to a combination of refinery disruptions in California and the seasonal transition from winter to summer gasoline blends. In the longer term, prices may remain elevated, with fuel costs likely to stay above $4 per gallon throughout the summer.
Rising Costs Already Impacting Local Drivers
As of Wednesday, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Las Vegas reached $3.84, marking an 11-cent increase over the past week and a 20-cent jump in the past month, according to AAA data. Nevada’s statewide average stood at $3.81 per gallon, up three cents overnight and 19 cents over the past month.
Nationally, gas prices averaged $3.14 per gallon, making Nevada one of the most expensive states for fuel. Only California ($4.74 per gallon), Hawaii ($4.55), and Washington ($4.07) reported higher average prices.
Why Are Prices Rising?
Southern Nevada relies heavily on California for its gasoline supply, making it particularly vulnerable to fluctuations caused by refinery issues in the state. Recent operational problems at multiple California refineries have contributed to a spike in wholesale gas prices, which is now being passed on to consumers at the pump.
Additionally, gas prices traditionally increase between February and mid-April due to the mandated switch from winter-grade to summer-grade gasoline. The summer blend is formulated to reduce emissions in warmer weather but is more expensive to produce, further driving up costs.
What to Expect in the Coming Weeks
Gas prices in Las Vegas are expected to climb steadily over the next month, with increases of 15 to 40 cents per gallon likely within the next two weeks. By mid-March, the average price is projected to surpass $4 per gallon, and additional refinery issues could push it even higher.
One factor that may help limit the price surge is the delayed transition to summer gasoline in Nevada compared to California. While California shifts to the new blend earlier, Las Vegas may see a slightly less dramatic price jump as a result.
When Could Prices Start to Fall?
If California refineries resolve their operational challenges in the coming weeks, gas prices are expected to stabilize and gradually decline by late spring. By Memorial Day, a slow downward trend is anticipated, barring any additional disruptions.
However, looking ahead to the summer months, fuel costs in Las Vegas are likely to remain above $4 per gallon for much of the season, similar to last year’s pricing trends.
Takeaways for Consumers
With prices on the rise, Las Vegas drivers should prepare for higher fuel costs in the short term. Those looking to save at the pump may benefit from using gas price comparison apps, considering loyalty programs, and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak price hikes.
While relief is expected later in the year, the next few months will see fluctuating and elevated gas prices driven by supply chain constraints and seasonal factors.

🏈 Raiders Announce 2025 Coaching Staff Under Pete Carroll’s Leadership

Newly appointed Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has assembled his first coaching staff, bringing in a mix of experienced NFL and collegiate coaches to lead the team in the 2025 season. Carroll, known for his championship-winning tenure with the Seattle Seahawks, has built a staff that includes well-respected names in offensive, defensive, and special teams roles.
Leading the group is offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, a former head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and UCLA Bruins. Known for his fast-paced offensive philosophy, Kelly is expected to bring creativity and explosiveness to the Raiders’ attack. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham returns to his role, continuing to shape the Raiders' defense after previously serving under former head coach Josh McDaniels. Tom McMahon takes over as special teams coordinator, bringing years of experience coordinating kicking and return units.
Offensive Staff
Carroll has prioritized experience and familiarity on the offensive side of the ball. Brennan Carroll, Pete’s son and former offensive coordinator at the University of Arizona, will oversee the run game and offensive line. Greg Olson, who previously served as the Raiders’ offensive coordinator from 2013-14 and 2018-21, returns as quarterbacks coach, tasked with developing the team’s signal callers.
Joe Philbin, a veteran coach with experience as head coach of the Miami Dolphins and a longtime offensive assistant with the Green Bay Packers, joins as a senior offensive assistant. The staff also includes wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, tight ends coach Luke Steckel, and assistant quarterbacks coach Nate Carroll, another of Pete Carroll’s sons.

John Glenn, who worked under Carroll in Seattle, will oversee the linebackers, while longtime defensive backs coach Marcus Robertson continues in his role. Kenyon Jackson, Rip Rowan, and Ty McKenzie will assist in various defensive positions, with Beyah Rasool handling quality control duties.

A Blend of Experience and Familiarity
Carroll’s staff reflects his coaching philosophy, blending veteran coaches with fresh perspectives. With the 2025 season on the horizon, the Raiders will aim to build on their foundation and compete in a challenging AFC West. Carroll’s leadership, combined with a well-rounded coaching staff, sets the stage for a new era in Las Vegas football.

Marc Fogel, an American history teacher who had been imprisoned in Russia since 2021, has been released and returned to the United States. The White House announced his release, calling it a significant diplomatic breakthrough that could help foster further negotiations between Washington and Moscow, including discussions on ending the war in Ukraine.
Fogel’s Arrest and Detention
Fogel, a longtime educator who taught at international schools, was arrested at a Moscow airport in August 2021 after authorities found a small amount of medical marijuana in his luggage. He had reportedly been prescribed cannabis for chronic pain but was sentenced to 14 years in a Russian penal colony on drug smuggling charges. His case drew comparisons to the detainment of WNBA star Brittney Griner, who was also arrested in Russia for cannabis possession but was released in a high-profile prisoner exchange in 2022.
In 2023, the U.S. government officially designated Fogel as "wrongfully detained," a status that prioritized efforts to secure his release. His family, legal advocates, and U.S. lawmakers had been pushing for his freedom, arguing that his harsh sentence was politically motivated and part of Russia’s broader strategy of detaining Americans as leverage in diplomatic disputes.
Diplomatic Implications
Fogel’s release is being viewed as a step toward reducing tensions between the U.S. and Russia, particularly amid ongoing discussions about the war in Ukraine. While details of his release have not been fully disclosed, U.S. officials indicated that it came as part of broader diplomatic efforts that could open the door for further negotiations, including possible future prisoner swaps or peace talks related to Ukraine.
The Biden administration has been working behind the scenes to secure the release of other Americans still held in Russia, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former Marine Paul Whelan, both of whom remain imprisoned on charges widely seen as politically motivated.
Reactions and Next Steps
Fogel’s family expressed relief and gratitude following his return, thanking U.S. diplomats and advocacy groups for their role in securing his freedom. Meanwhile, human rights organizations have continued to urge the U.S. government to maintain pressure on Russia to free other Americans facing unjust imprisonment.
While Fogel’s release marks a positive development in U.S.-Russia relations, experts caution that it does not necessarily signal a major policy shift by the Kremlin. However, it does suggest that diplomatic channels remain open, which could be crucial for addressing broader geopolitical issues, including ongoing conflicts and security concerns in Eastern Europe.

🏡 Las Vegas Real Estate Boom Continues with Record-Breaking Home Prices

The Las Vegas housing market set a new record in January, with the median home sale price reaching $485,000. This figure surpasses the previous all-time high of $482,000 set in May 2022 and marks a 9% increase from January 2024, when the median price was $445,000.
The data, sourced from the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) by Las Vegas Realtors (LVR), highlights the continued growth of home values in Southern Nevada, despite economic factors such as high mortgage rates. Many potential buyers remain on the sidelines, unable to afford rising costs, which has fueled increased interest in rental properties and investment opportunities.
Market Conditions Favor Investors
Current conditions have made Las Vegas an attractive destination for real estate investors. Elevated mortgage rates have pushed many would-be homeowners toward renting, creating high demand in the rental market. Investors are drawn to the city’s relatively new construction, lack of state income taxes, and business-friendly climate. Additionally, Las Vegas faces fewer natural disaster risks compared to other major U.S. markets, further increasing its appeal for long-term investment.
Home Affordability Declining
The sharp rise in home prices and down payment requirements has made homeownership in Las Vegas less affordable than in cities such as Denver, Phoenix, and Tampa Bay. A recent Redfin report found that the Las Vegas metro area experienced one of the highest year-over-year increases in home down payments, surging 40.7% from $32,328 to $45,500 as of June. This increase outpaced several other major metropolitan areas, including Washington, D.C., and Nashville.
Looking Ahead
While the housing market remains strong, affordability challenges could continue to shape buyer behavior in the coming months. Whether home prices stabilize or continue to rise will depend on factors such as interest rate trends, supply levels, and economic conditions. For now, Las Vegas continues to be a competitive and high-demand market, particularly for investors and landlords looking to capitalize on rental opportunities.
