🛣 Full-Day Closure of 215 Beltway in Summerlin Set for Late February

A section of the 215 Beltway in Summerlin will be completely closed for a full 24 hours next week to accommodate ongoing construction work. According to an announcement from Clark County on Wednesday, the closure will begin at 9 p.m. on February 28 and continue until 9 p.m. on March 1. The affected stretch runs between Tropicana Avenue and Flamingo Road.
Reason for the Closure
The closure is necessary for construction crews to complete a significant phase of the Peace Way bridge project, which involves pouring concrete decking over the beltway. This work is part of a larger infrastructure initiative valued at $19.8 million.
The bridge is being built to connect Peace Way at Fort Apache Road on the west side of the 215 with Chessie Court on the east side. Once completed, the bridge will help improve traffic flow and accessibility in the Summerlin area, offering an alternative route across the busy freeway.
Traffic Disruptions and Detours
During the closure, drivers should expect lane reductions and heavy traffic congestion near the work zone. Specific lane reductions will begin as follows:
Southbound lanes will start reducing as far north as Town Center Drive.
Northbound lanes will see reductions beginning as far south as Sunset Road.
Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes to avoid delays:
For northbound travel, use Fort Apache Road to access the 215 at Flamingo Road.
For southbound travel, enter the 215 at Tropicana Avenue.
County officials have warned drivers to anticipate delays and allow for additional travel time when navigating through or around the closure area.
Ongoing Construction and Additional Upgrades
This is not the first time this stretch of the 215 has faced a full shutdown. A similar closure took place in December 2024 when crews installed girders for the bridge.
In addition to the bridge construction, the overall project includes:
Roadway rehabilitation on Peace Way between Hualapai Way and Cimarron Road
Installation of new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks
A new traffic signal at the intersection of Hualapai Way and Peace Way
Project Timeline
The Peace Way bridge project began in June 2024 and remains on schedule for completion by summer 2025. Once finished, the improvements are expected to ease traffic congestion, enhance pedestrian safety, and improve overall infrastructure for the surrounding neighborhoods in Summerlin.
In the meantime, drivers are encouraged to stay informed about additional closures or changes as the project progresses.

🏒 Canada Defeats U.S. 3-2 in Overtime to Win 4 Nations Face-Off

The Canadian national hockey team triumphed over the United States with a 3-2 overtime victory in the 4 Nations Face-Off final on Thursday night in Boston. As the Canadian anthem played for the second time that evening, the remaining fans in the arena—many clad in red Team Canada jerseys—celebrated the win by singing along with pride.
The game-winning goal came from Connor McDavid at 8:18 in overtime, securing the championship for Canada on U.S. ice. The Canadians, standing arm-in-arm, celebrated as their flag was lowered behind the trophy, marking a symbolic victory in one of hockey’s fiercest rivalries.
A Rivalry Beyond Hockey
The game carried extra weight, not just due to the high stakes of international hockey supremacy but also because of the ongoing political tensions between the two nations. Recent comments from political leaders and off-ice tensions fueled an atmosphere that extended beyond the rink.
Despite losing to the U.S. in the earlier round-robin stage, Canada turned the tables in the final, avenging their previous defeat and capturing the first-ever 4 Nations Face-Off championship. The result added another chapter to the storied rivalry between the two North American hockey powers.
Key Performances and Game Highlights
Nathan MacKinnon and Sam Bennett scored Canada’s other two goals, with MacKinnon also earning MVP honors for his performance throughout the tournament—scoring four goals in four games. Goaltender Jordan Binnington played a crucial role in Canada’s win, stopping 31 shots, including the last 20 he faced, delivering clutch saves in both regulation and overtime.
For the United States, Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson provided the goals, while goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 22 saves in regulation and added three more in overtime. Despite their efforts, the Americans couldn’t stop McDavid’s decisive goal after a crucial faceoff win deep in their own zone.
A Tournament That Exceeded Expectations
The tournament captured the attention of hockey fans across the continent, drawing comparisons to high-stakes events like the Olympic gold medal game or the Stanley Cup Final. Many analysts and players noted that the intensity and popularity of the event far exceeded expectations, further fueling anticipation for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The rivalry was intensified by recent political rhetoric, including references to Canada becoming the "51st U.S. state." Despite the off-ice noise, both teams delivered an unforgettable on-ice battle that showcased the best of international hockey.
Looking Ahead to the 2026 Olympics
While the U.S. took home a round-robin win earlier in the tournament, their loss in the final leaves them seeking redemption as they prepare for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics. Many American players expressed hopes that the intense competition from the Face-Off would inspire the next generation of players and bring renewed energy to future international matchups.
For Canada, the victory represents more than just a tournament win—it reinforces their dominance in international hockey and sets the stage for a highly anticipated rematch on the Olympic stage.

President Donald Trump expressed support on Wednesday for congressional efforts to place Washington, D.C. back under direct federal control, effectively ending the city’s limited autonomy granted under Home Rule. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump criticized the city's handling of crime and homelessness, suggesting that the federal government should take over the district’s governance to ensure public safety and maintain the city’s image.
Concerns Over Crime and Homelessness
Trump specifically pointed to rising crime rates and the visibility of homelessness in the nation’s capital as reasons for supporting a federal takeover. He argued that the presence of homeless encampments on public spaces, particularly near iconic landmarks and government buildings, undermines the city’s global image—especially during visits from foreign dignitaries.
In his remarks, Trump emphasized that these issues are not just local concerns but national ones, given D.C.’s status as the capital of the United States. He suggested that federal intervention would restore safety and order to public spaces, which he described as “once magnificent.”
The Limits of D.C.’s Autonomy
Under the District of Columbia Home Rule Act of 1973, Washington, D.C. was granted limited self-governance, allowing for an elected mayor and city council while maintaining congressional oversight. Congress still holds the power to review and overturn local laws and budgets.
However, some Republican lawmakers have recently pushed for even tighter federal control over the district, proposing to reverse decades of gradual autonomy. Trump’s support adds significant weight to these efforts and signals a possible shift toward rolling back the freedoms D.C. has gained over the years.
Criticism of Local Leadership
Despite expressing a personal liking for D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, Trump criticized her administration’s handling of the city’s ongoing challenges. He accused the city government of failing to adequately address public safety concerns and the visible rise of tent encampments on public property.
Trump argued that the nation’s capital should reflect the prestige of the country it represents and said the federal government has a responsibility to ensure that Washington, D.C., remains a safe and welcoming place for both residents and visitors.
Potential Political Implications
Trump’s comments are likely to intensify the debate over D.C. statehood and autonomy. Advocates for D.C. statehood have long pushed for full voting representation in Congress and greater local control, arguing that the city’s more than 700,000 residents deserve the same democratic rights as citizens in other states.
Opponents of statehood, however, argue that the Founders intended for the nation’s capital to remain under congressional control to prevent any single state from having undue influence over the federal government.
If congressional Republicans move forward with legislation to impose direct federal control, it would represent one of the most significant rollbacks of D.C.’s autonomy in nearly 50 years.
What’s Next?
In the meantime, Trump’s remarks are likely to escalate tensions between city officials and federal lawmakers as debates over crime, homelessness, and the broader status of the district continue to unfold.

🎰 Light & Wonder Acquires Grover Gaming in $850M Deal to Expand Charitable Gaming

Light & Wonder Acquires Grover Gaming in $850 Million Deal to Expand Charitable Gaming Footprint
Las Vegas-based gaming equipment giant Light & Wonder has announced its plans to acquire Grover Charitable Gaming, a privately held company headquartered in Greenview, North Carolina, for $850 million in cash. In addition to the upfront payment, the agreement includes a potential four-year, revenue-based earn-out of up to $200 million. The deal is contingent on regulatory approval and is expected to close in the second quarter of 2025.
Strategic Move into Charitable Gaming
Grover Gaming specializes in producing land-based, online, and mobile gaming content for the charitable gaming sector—an area that has seen considerable growth across the United States. The company operates in five U.S. states and has carved out a strong position by offering innovative games and platforms that cater to both traditional and digital audiences.
By acquiring Grover Gaming, Light & Wonder aims to expand its reach into the growing market of charitable gaming, a regulated niche with high barriers to entry. This move allows the company to diversify its product offerings and tap into a loyal customer base that has historically been underserved by mainstream gaming providers.
Expansion of Light & Wonder’s Cross-Platform Gaming Strategy
Light & Wonder, known for its expertise in land-based and iGaming platforms, views this acquisition as a key part of its strategy to become a global leader in cross-platform gaming. The integration of Grover Gaming’s assets will enable Light & Wonder to offer its existing games and technologies to a new audience while expanding its market presence in regulated gaming spaces.
The acquisition is also expected to open up new revenue opportunities by introducing Light & Wonder’s well-established gaming content to Grover’s dedicated charitable gaming audience. This could allow the company to further penetrate adjacent markets without incurring significant additional development costs.
Positive Outlook from Industry Analysts
Financial analysts have responded positively to the acquisition, noting the potential long-term growth benefits for Light & Wonder. According to analysts from Truist Securities, the deal enhances Light & Wonder’s growth prospects by leveraging its existing research and development capabilities to expand into new markets.
The acquisition is also aligned with Light & Wonder’s broader financial goals, as the company continues to work toward achieving $1.4 billion in adjusted cash flow by 2025. Analysts have highlighted that entering the charitable gaming market could offer stable, long-term revenue streams due to its regulated nature and high barriers to entry.
In response to the announcement, Macquarie raised its target stock price for Light & Wonder from $117 to $122 per share, citing the acquisition’s potential to serve as a growth driver in the coming years.
Leadership and Future Plans
As part of the deal, Garrett Blackwelder, founder of Grover Gaming, will collaborate with Light & Wonder over the next three years to help ensure a smooth transition and support the continued growth of the business. Blackwelder’s leadership and expertise in the charitable gaming industry are expected to play a key role in integrating the two companies’ operations.
Conclusion: A Strategic Expansion into a Growing Market
The acquisition marks a significant milestone for Light & Wonder as it seeks to diversify its portfolio and strengthen its presence in regulated gaming markets. By incorporating Grover Gaming’s expertise and expanding into charitable gaming, Light & Wonder is positioning itself for sustained growth and innovation in the years ahead.
With regulatory approval expected in the coming months, industry experts will be watching closely to see how this strategic move reshapes the landscape of charitable gaming and influences the broader gaming industry.
